In Fragments
FRAGMENTS: TRACES, letters, memory, story & myth. Nothing linear. Nothing controlled. It’s the stuff of constellations.
“Ideas are to objects as constellations are to stars.”
~ Walter Benjamin in The Origin of German Tragic Drama (1928)
The more we encounter in this life, the less likely it is that truths can ever come together in one tidy narrative. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. If we give up trying to simplify, the complexities have room to unfold into unexpected patterns of beautiful constellations.
“Perhaps it is easier to write in fragments because one has already been shattered.”
~ Maggie Nelson in Bluets (2009)
Sometimes, it can be easier to unearth meaning by coming at it sideways.
Similar to the formation of a constellation, working in fragments make space to expand.
“To think is to move among constellations.”
~ Walter Benjamin
